“Goddamn it, are you trying to send me to an early grave? Because I assure you, you’re not in my will.” Vin stuck his finger in his ear, shaking it around to recover his hearing.

“You have turned into such a wet blanket recently,” Ann-Marie said. She straightened the crown of laurel leaves on his head. “What’s eating you?”

“Nothing. No one. Why are you so nosy?” He glared at her, fully recognizing that he was acting like an ass—who’d pissed in his Wheaties?—and not being able to stop.

“Boy trouble,” Shan said, coming up on his other side. The two of them were dressed in matching costumes, some pop-culture reference that sailed completely over his head and he resented the temptation to ask them to explain. So he didn’t.

Ann-Marie leaned forward, nodded. “Definitely boy trouble. Question is, which boy?”
