Chapter 59

“I had an altercation with another student before break. The Honor Council decided today that he was going to be expelled,” Beau said. “I don’t imagine he’s responsible for this. He was in the meeting all morning, along with me—” and boy, howdy, hadn’t thatbeen fun? “—and I’d hesitate to point fingers, but I suspect someone who sympathizes with him decided I needed to know that I’m not safe.”

“You’re one of them homosexshuals?” The cop looked disgusted.

Rescue came from an unexpected direction.

“He’s my roommate, sir,” Josh said, firmly. “And we’re both victims in this particular break-in.”

Finally, the cop was gone, his notebook full of jotted unreadables tucked into his pocket. “You think anything will come of this?” Josh said. He was still ruthlessly ignoring the few stubborn hangers-on who lingered in the hall.

“Do I think Officer Cheery will actually try to find out who did this and arrest them? No.”
