His parents hadn’t emailed him yet, and he doubted they would. Adam left one voice mail, and that was just an update on where he was.
Adam messaged more than twelve hours ago that he was stuck in Hawai’i, and waiting for the next flight out. He wasn’t sure which military base he was being flown into, but his orders said he had to report to Twentynine Palms the following Monday, so Adam assumed when he flew in he had to make arrangements to go to the Marine base in San Bernardino. That would mean he would be stopping at his grandparents place in Bakersfield, his message said.
It took him a couple of hours to reach Bakersfield. He emptied out a whole box of Kleenex in the back floorboard from his nose bleeding. His nose stopped once he left the city of angels.
Luckily the rental’s GPS had no problems finding Adam’s grandparents’ home. He pulled up right at sundown.
