Chapter 25

“Get some chicken.”

“But I don’t want chicken.”

“And I don’t care. You could have the roast beef, if you prefer. But you need more than fats and carbs. Pick some protein or I’ll do it for you.”

I grumbled good-naturedly as I picked out a small piece of grilled chicken. When Holden just lifted his brow, I took a piece of the beef, too. He nodded and I headed for the picnic table. Setting down my food, I turned toward the coolers to get myself a drink, only to notice that Holden was already there.

“Water or juice?” he called.

“Soda!”

“You’re getting water.”

Dammit. I sat down with a huff. I knew damn well he was looking out for me. I did have too much sugar and caffeine in my diet, and we both knew it. Holden had been trying to convince me for days to cut down. It seemed he was taking matters into his own hands.
