He turned around and huffed. “Seven years, Sawyer Waters. Seven. Years. I knowwhat you like by now.” He shook his head and resumed walking.
Laughter spilled out of me as I lay on the blanket and stared at the sky. “God, I love that man!”
“I can tell,” Wade said.
“Yeah? You mean I look like a heart-eyes emoji?”
Wade chuckled. “Something like that.”
“I’m totally fine with that. I’m not in the business of hiding how I feel about him.”
“That’s great.”
Darkness was creeping in and everything grew still. Not even a faint breeze rustled the trees, and the lake was smooth as a mirror. A peace like nothing I’d felt in a long time washed over me.
“Are you enjoying your stay with us?” Wade asked after a few minutes spent in companionable silence.
“Yes! This place is like a little corner of paradise.”
“I’m glad.”
“I bet it’s really pretty here in the fall.”
