Diving In

He gave me a smile. “We need just a week more. We can get everything done by then, and even though the lease won’t technically be up for another week after that, there’s nothing that says we have to be occupying the space in that time.”


My eyes went wide. “Really? We can leave in a week?”


Preston nodded. “If we get moving, finish the last of the packing, and talk to the new landlord, yes. I know my boss won’t care if I move things up. And your interview isn’t until the week after we were supposed to arrive.”


I held up my crossed fingers. “Let’s hope I get it! Fifth grade would be fun.”


Pushing himself off the couch, Preston hauled me up with him. “Well, we’ve got contingency plans in place if you don’t. But we’ll worry about that when it happens. Move your beautiful butt, my love. We have work to do.”


I did a shimmy-butt-wiggle, then threw my hands in the air. “Yay!”
