This time, they’d sent Drew as a distraction. “Hey, Wade. Would you stop with the pacing? You’re making everybody nervous.”

“Oh, sorry.” I came to a halt next to him, squinting in the direction of the entrance to V Wilderness as my fingers started tapping a tattoo on my thigh.

Drew sighed. “So, did you find a new boat?”

“Nah.” Tap-tap-tap.

“Nothing caught your eye?”

I shook my head and took a couple steps forward.

“No, no, no.” Drew hooked his arm with mine. “You’re coming with me. Lunch is waiting.”

“But—”

“Nope. You knowyou can see every car that drives to the office from the window by the table. You can eat and stare at the same time.”

I allowed him to lead me inside and didn’t object when he pushed me into the chair with the best view of outside. He set a bowl of soup in front of me and I started eating, having no idea what I was spooning into my mouth.
