Sawyer jerked at the sound, and he lifted his head, blew an errant hair off his forehead, and squinted at me. “What does that mean?”


“I can see it. Us together. All three of us. I can…” I took another second to examine my feelings. “Yeah. I can feel it.”


Sawyer’s mouth dropped opened, then a smile lit his face. “Wait a minute. You have the feels, too?”


I had to laugh, because that was the first time in two days he’d really sounded like himself. “I could. Like you said, we don’t know him well. I get what you’re saying, about wanting to be near him. There’s this desire to just touch him, even if it’s an arm or a hand. Or just hear him talk. Sometimes, you just know, right? You see your person, and something unlocks in your soul, and you just know.”


Sawyer nodded solemnly and cupped my cheek. “I had that with you. And now…” His eyes took on a hard, blazing look. “I want him, Preston. But never at the expense of you, of us. I need you. I loveyou.”
