Chapter 42

Breathe.

Breathe.

Despite trying to rationalize his fear and not be overwhelmed, he continued to call Elias.

After the fifth time, he threw the cell on the sofa and went to look out of the window. It was raining as always.

“Where are you?” he murmured, a second before his phone rang.

Thomas grabbed it quickly, but when he saw Anne’s name, he was tempted not to answer.

He thanked God that he had when she told him, “Come down to headquarters. Elias is here.”

Thomas didn’t even lose time answering. He took his jacket and ran down the stairs, straight to his car and then the headquarters.

When he entered the open space of his department, Anne went to him and lifted a hand.

“Wait. We need to talk first.”

“No. Where is he? What happened?” Thomas asked, his breathing ragged. “Is he okay?”

Anne smiled and touched his hand.

God, what happened to him?

“Why is he here?”

Anne took him by an elbow and brought him to a corner of the room.
