Chapter 52

“Can I ask you something?” Sean asks, interrupting my thoughts.

“What?” I answer, looking at him.

“Are you always like this, or am I pissing you off? Just wondering, because it isn’t really a problem. I mean, we can’t like everybody. I’d understand, honest. But I’d prefer to know because I’m starting to feel a little stupid,” he explains.

I slow down, then start walking faster again, forcing him to trail a little behind me.

“It isn’t like that,” I answer rudely, stuffing my hands farther into my pockets.

Sean chuckles and shakes his head. “If that’s the case, I don’t want to see you with people you don’t like.”

I suddenly stop and turn to him, stubbornly trying to ignore his beautiful face.

“It isn’t like that, okay? It. Isn’t. Like. That. It’s me, being like this.”

“Oh, now everything is so much clearer,” he mutters, blinking his long eyelashes.

“I don’t understand. What do you want from me?” I stare into his eyes for a second before looking away.
