“I’m sorry.” Jay bit down on his lower lip, hating the sound of his apology. Damn April, and damn his mother for putting them in this position. Jay didn’t have much experience with this kind of thing. He didn’t know how, gently, to let a man down; worse, some small part of him didn’t wish to. Staying in touch with Fran?ois as a friend seemed unlikely. The man would want more and even making it clear that wasn’t an option made any such friendship unfair. Fran?ois might hope. No point putting any of them through that.
