Chapter 30

“Your mark.”

“Oh. Yeah.” He rubs his face in the junction between my neck and shoulder, then climbs off me. I can’t take my eyes off his clothed erection as he tears open his jeans and shimmies them over his hips and legs. Just like I did before, he lowers his underwear only enough for me to see the mark.

“Whoa.” All air rushes out of my lungs, and in a daze, I touch the mark. It’s nearly the same as mine, only paler, almost exactly the same color as the blush roses in Nana’s garden. In contrast, mine is more like the color of copper, but other than that, they’re identical, located on the sensitive skin where thigh meets abdomen.

I brush my lips against it. When I look up, Mattis’ eyes are glazed over, and his mouth hangs open.

He hauls me to my feet. Cupping my face, he looks right into my eyes. “Before we go any further, you have to be sure.”

“Sure about what?” I lean in, eager to taste his lips again.

But he takes a step back. “No. You have to be sure.”
