“You’re so worried about me wanting Nicole, but what makes you think shewants me?”
“Why wouldn’tshe want you? You’re a great guy and a great lay.”
He laughed. “Thanks. I want that on my tombstone. Donovan Clark: a great guy and a great lay.”
“It’s true.”
He slid on top of me and kissed me. “I feel the same way about you. I love you very much, so stop worrying about Nicole, okay? My feelings for her will never get in the way of my relationship with you.”
“Okay,” I’d said even though I didn’t believe it. Donovan would always have a weak spot for Nicole and he and I both knew it. Maybe the day would never come when he’d have to choose between her and me, but if it did, I wasn’t totally confident I’d come out on top.
Although Donovan’s friendship with Nicole had worried me, he and I had had more pressing problems in our relationship to deal with.
