Chapter 9

My eyes might have popped out of my head a bit and there’s a chance I nearly choked on my cotton candy (can that actually happen?). Had I heard him correctly? Mind you, this all happened in a matter of seconds. Panic quickly set in when I realized I forgot to say anything back. My mother raised me with the habit of not speaking with my mouth full and I’d just shoved a wad of spin sugar into my mouth. Understandable.

But leave it up to my brain to throw out the ticking of time and me not replying. Oh, horrifying day! I needed to say it back before the moment was ruined or lost forever.

I hastily swallowed what was left.

“I love you, too,” I replied, gazing into his eyes. His whole face lit up and my world was made whole.

Like in one of those sappy movies, we leaned closer to seal it with a kiss, but the wheel jerked as it began its rotation and our basket rocked. We missed and wound up laughing.
