Chapter 39

“That was the name of the book about lightning.”

“Huh?” I traced another heart, only this time, not on my own flesh and not without guidance. I’d always liked holding hands with Dougie, despite my objections.

“It’s just so we don’t slip on the rocks, Justy,” he’d once claimed. “Jesus.” His smirk indicated it wasn’t. Now, both of my hands were in his. I liked that, too.

“The book with the lightning and stuff…Two Heartsit was called,” he said. “And Frank and Liam lived happily ever after.”

“Did they?”

“Yes…but…”

“But?”

“But first, they had to kiss.”

“Kiss?” I asked.

“Yes, Justice.”

“Was their first kiss in a lightning storm?”

“Maybe someday, but not the first time. Frank got cured, eventually, but I bet they still would have been nervous kissing in a storm the first time.”
