Chapter 77

Though I trusted Freddie with my life, I figured I should wait and have the meatier part of that discussion with Preston. What I did reveal was something more personal, though I couched it as if it wasn’t.

“When I thought about yesterday, and then started putting puzzle pieces together that may or may not fit, I had to get over here and make sure Archie’s okay.”

I didn’t see him through the window, back at the griddle.

“Yes. That makes sense.” Freddie brushed my cheek. He knew.

“When Ralph left your shop, did you notice anyone tailing him? Had anyone come in with him?”

“No, he was alone,” Freddie said.

“And if anyone was on his trail, I didn’t notice,” Curtis added.

 “Okay. Thanks.”
