“No. I haven’t heard from her for hours, Kylie.” From klock to kettle, Keith was about to boil over. “Can you come over? Captain Becker is here, and he…I don’t know. Just come over, Kylie.”

“Tell her not to come.”

I hadn’t said it. When I spun around, Karen Kelly was standing just inside the front door. She wasn’t holding a knife. She was holding a gun, and she was pointing it right at me. 12

So, I now knew the who. I knew the how and the where. There was something lacking still when it came to the why, though. The items Faye had taken were part of it, but what made one man’s junk so valuable Karen was willing to kill two people to get it back?

“Karen…Come on…We don’t want to do this.” I held out my open palm. “Give me the gun.”
