With his finger poised over the nine, he decided against getting Edison’s help with that and hung up. “Maybe we can have someone come here,” Stone whispered when Monty lifted his head. “Shh. Don’t wake up you know who.”

Literally, one second later, the phone did.

“Hello?”

Woof, woof, woof!

“I was thinking about you.” It was Edison. “Aren’t you coming over?”

“I’m not sure.”

Woof, woof, woof.

“Python?” Edison asked.

“How’d you guess? Python, down.”

“He stopped,” Edison marveled.

“Yeah. We’re in bed,” Stone explained. “He likes it here. As long as he can touch me or Monty, he’ll stay calm.”

“Aww.”

“We could just stay in bed for the rest of our lives.” Stone rolled his eyes. “The dogs and I, I mean.”

“I got that, yeah.”

“Just wanted to make sure.”

“I think, maybe, I find myself missing you,” Edison said.

“Wow.” Stone sat forward, genuinely surprised. “I don’t know what to say.” His first thought had been, “Do you miss me, or do you miss Lee?”
