Chapter 8

* * * *

Mid Wednesday morning, Carol buzzed Jake to tell him he had a call from Alan Sutton. His first thought was that his stalker had stepped things up now that he couldn’t track Alan’s movements.

“No, no,” Alan said when Jake asked. “Everything’s fine. That’s why I’m calling, to let you know and thank you again for your help.”

“You’re welcome. I’m glad he backed off. Not to frighten you, but don’t let your guard down quite yet. If he doesn’t do anything in the next couple of weeks, then he’s undoubtedly moved on to someone else.”

“I feel sorry for them if he has,” Alan replied. “That wasn’t fun, even though he didn’t do anything.”

Jake wanted to say that being followed was definitely something, but he didn’t. “Thanks for the update. If, and at this point I’d say he probably won’t, but if you even think he’s trying something new, let me know immediately.”

“I will.”
