Why did I agree to come home with him? Jake knew why. Russ was right; he was blaming himself for Alan’s abduction and death, and for not finding the man who called himself Fabian.
“That’s not his real name,” Jake said aloud, setting down the cup of coffee Russ had poured him.
“If you mean Fabian, I think that’s pretty obvious by now.”
“Yeah. How do we find a man who doesn’t seem to exist, despite the fact he’s been seen at several gay clubs? A man who managed to abduct someone in broad daylight without leaving any clues to his identity other than a partial view of his face on a security video? A man who can bug a car and get rid of a dead body with no one being the wiser?”
“He may have left some clues at the church,” Russ replied. “You know Ogden won’t tell us if he did.”
“True.” Jake was up and pacing by then. “Why torture Alan before killing him, because you know that’s what he did? Was he punishing him for some imagined infraction?”
