Chapter 41

“I’ll be in touch, Beck. You’ll have to come down to the station and give us a formal statement. You, too, Mr. Richards.” The sheriff tipped his hat and then sauntered away.

The trio were still standing there when the cars disappeared. Cory broke first. He laughed and shook his head.

“Well, shit.”

“You said it,” Beck muttered. Then he turned to Jordan. “Guess it was good you made me report him in the first place.”

“Damn right it was.” Jordan took a deep breath and let it out slowly, trying to release all the tension that had built up in his shoulders. He took Beck’s hand. “I’m just glad he didn’t do anything to you. All this,” he gestured around, “can be fixed.”

Beck stepped into his space, and Jordan was vaguely aware of Cory calling out a “see you later” as he beat a hasty retreat back up to his apartment. His entire attention was focused solely on Beck.
