Chapter 10

He looked the big guy up and down and growled, “Take a hike.”

To my surprise, the guy turned pale, swallowed, and did what Nick ordered.

Nick turned back to me. “Doc, you can’t keep doing this.”

“Yes, I can. I’m forty-fucking-five…” Too fucking young to be a widower. “…and I can do whatever the fuck I want.”

“Josie would hate what you’re doing to yourself.” He took my arm and pretty much manhandled me out of the bar. “And I’m not letting you go back in there.”

“She was the one who told me not to grieve.”

“I don’t think this is what she had in mind.”

I yanked my arm free of his hold and growled, “Leave me the fuck alone.” I’d lost my taste for alcohol, so I stalked to the back of the parking lot, where I’d parked the Rover I’d given Jo for our anniversary, shortly before she’d become ill the first time. Perhaps I should have gotten rid of it after she’d passed, but she’d loved it, so I kept it.
