Chapter 19

Doc stepped outside and I followed him. “I hope this isn’t like Venus, with a permanent cloud cover.” The clouds were fairly dense. “What color do you think this sky is?” I’d never appreciated the blue of Terra’s skies until we’d spent all that time under Mars’s butterscotch ones.

“It’s difficult to place the sun with all those clouds, but I’m willing to bet we’ve got a few hours of daylight left. Hopefully that will be enough to get us down off this mountain.”

“I thought you weren’t a betting man, Doc.”

He smiled and ran his fingers over my ear. “Your ear is red. These jackets have a hood sealed in the collar.”

“Thanks.” I shivered at his touch, but I didn’t allow myself to lean into it. “I should have realized that.”
