Chapter 25

“Can you understand her, Doc?”

“I think so, Ed. She’s inviting us to join her people, me because I can communicate, more or less,” I muttered under my breath. The roots of our language were still there, but it would take some time getting used to the way they spoke it. “She wants Nick because he killed the lion and Hank because the kids seem to like him.”

“What about me?” Ed demanded.

“I think it’s safe to say you’re invited as well.” I turned back to the elder. “Thank you for your kind invitation, but we must find a way to return to our own world.”

“Understand. All…questing…go. Rest…first. Honor…you…stay…” She pointed toward the sun, closed her fist, and then opened it four times.

“Thank you,” I repeated. “That’s very kind of you. Gentlemen?”

“Fine by me, Doc.” Nick was watching one of the women. She had long blonde hair and big blue eyes, and I sighed. Of course he would want someone younger and of the right gender.

“Hank?”
