“If I have to, I will see that you are no longer included on any guest lists.”

“No doubt that will keep me out of some homes,” Matthias agreed with another shrug. “But I’ve no desire to belong to Almack’s or such.”

“How long are you determined to do this?”

“Until I am satisfied.” Matthias stood to meet his brother’s eyes.

“Then we’ve nothing let to say,” Hugh replied tightly.

“I’ll have ?mer show you out.” Matthias nodded toward the door, and sure enough, ?mer walked in on cue. The valet tended to keep close to Matthias when unpleasantness arose, likely a habit left over from his service as a bodyguard.

It appeared that Hugh wanted to say something else, but instead he merely strode past ?mer when the valet held the door open for him.

Matthias expected nothing less from the Marquess of Caver.
