Violet began to return the impish look, but her eyes darted toward Charlotte and she sobered. “Long enough for him to sayanything, Lucy, of course,” she replied, looking every inch the prim and proper maiden.
“If you wish to wear your lilac gown tonight, we really should put new trim on it,” Charlotte said. “I thought the white roses from my old gown and some of the leftover green ribbons from your bonnet would do nicely.”
Violet’s eyes lit up. “It will look like a whole new dress!”
“That isthe idea,” Charlotte looked amused. “Get the dress and the trim and I’ll meet you in the back parlor to work.” Once Violet left, she looked at Lucy.
“You’re going to make me sew, aren’t you?” Lucy looked resigned.
“If you take the roses off my dress, you should be finished in plenty of time to go with Nellie when she takes Cedric for his airing.”
