Chapter 28

It was the day after the holiday. His mother had driven him to the bus station to catch the bus back to the university.

“The gymnastics meet is next weekend, and we have practice tonight. But I’ll be home for New Year’s,” Frank said, giving her a hug.

“You can watch your friend play in that football game with your father. It will be nice for the two of you to share something together.”

“Yeah, it will.”

Just how much Frank wanted to share about Bill with his minister father was another story.

He hugged his mother once again and got on the bus. After taking his seat, Frank texted Bill that he was on his way back to school. Frank hadn’t heard from him since the previous day. Maybe knowing Frank was no longer at home would make Bill feel more comfortable about contacting him. For most of the bus ride back, Frank sat holding his phone, hoping Bill would call and staring out the window, wondering what the future held.
