Chapter 32

“What are you doing with that?” he asked rising from where he sat, and going over to her. His mother and father looked up at him.

“Duh, I’m going to read it. That’s what you do with books, you know. That a crime?” Cindy replied sarcastically.

“You got it from my room. Why did you go in there?”

“Because the door was open.”

Frank took a deep breath. “Just because the door was open doesn’t give you the right to just go in and take stuff. Give it here.”

“Why can’t I read it? Has it got dirty stuff in it?”

Frank saw that his mother and father were watching more intently. He realized he was calling too much attention to the situation.

“Uh…I guess it’s okay, just be careful with it.”

“Why? What’s so special about it?” Cindy asked.

Frank checked and saw both his parents were still looking at him and his sister. Why did she have to be such a pain? Why didn’t she just let it go?

“It’s…uh…leather-bound, and a friend gave it to me for Christmas.”
