Chapter 40

“There are a lot of players that came out after they retired,” Mark offered.

“A lot of good that does us. Bill hasn’t even been drafted yet. We’d have to wait maybe ten years before we could come out. Do you really think we could hide it that long without being caught? Would he even want to?”

Mark shrugged.

Frank headed for the bathroom. “I gotta go. We’ve got a meet tomorrow and practice this afternoon, and I need a shower.”

“Bethune! Get your head in the game!” shouted one of Frank’s coaches. “You’re sloppy and you’ve missed that catch on your Cassina twice. Your flyaways suck!”

Frank knew he wasn’t focused. His mind bounced back and forth between his conversation with Mark and the elation he’d felt when Bill publicly acknowledged him that morning. Sure, it was veiled, and only he knew what Bill was really saying.
