“I said no. If the Patriots draft you, you’re going. You’re not going to jeopardize your dream. Delaying a year will hurt your chances.”

Frank leaned forward and kissed Bill. “I love you. But I can’t let you gamble with your career for me. We have to end this. There’s no way we could keep it a secret. Look at all we have to do now to keep anyone from suspecting. Remember what Dennis almost did? You’re going to be a star in the NFL. It’ll be even harder. All eyes will be on you. We’d be prisoners of your fame.”

Bill looked shocked. “I don’t care about all that. I can’t believe you’re saying these things. Don’t you realize how much I love you? I don’t want the fuckin’ NFL without you!”

“Yes, you do. Or you will. Picture us, sitting together watching a Patriots’ football game on a Sunday. How long would it take before you’d resent me because you weren’t out there playing?”
