Chapter 8

“I took a silversmith class over at the trade tech. My old man made jewelry, and being I had nothing else to fall back on, I figured I’d try it. And what’d ya know, I was good at it. Landed me the gig over at old man Consetta’s. The rest is small town history.”

I wanted to comment on the fact that although he made jewelry, he was naked of any of his work, but the pizza arrived and seemed to consume his attention.

We made quick work of the long awaited pie. Now both of us were leaning back, contented, smiling, and I knew I was buzzed from the beer.

“You want another beer?”

“Naw, I gotta get home. Shouldn’t have stayed out so late, might miss her.” I stopped myself then and began to feel the return of tension at the base of my spine.

“Miss who? You married?”

I shook my head and stood up. I had stayed too long. I cursed the pleasant buzz in my head and the throbbing between my legs.

“I gotta go, thanks for this,” I said and dropped some money on the table. Ned watched me leave.
