Lily

“I do know, you don’t know. You don’t have a child. I won’t have her suffer, even if it means I lose her. Ned, she was practically breaking windows to get out. You have no fucking idea what this feels like. She was in pain because of that stupid necklace.” I tossed the red mess of towels into the kitchen sink. “Lily!” I called, ignoring Ned’s level glare. “Can you please grab me a bandage?” I inspected the wound and saw that the bleeding had slowed.


When Lily appeared, we were both surprised to see she had haphazardly dressed herself.


Ned moved cautiously around her. “Is she alright?” he asked as he offered me a bandage.


I took the bandage and saw Lily staring at the necklace on the floor. She sidled past it, as though it was dangerous.


“Lily, do you want breakfast?” I asked, then pulled out a chair for her with my good hand


Lily deftly mounted it and sat on all fours to watch as I bandaged my wound.


“Hurt,” Lily said with a frown. “Daddy hurt?”
