“Well, good night then.” I tried to breathe. To let him go. To trust him. “Can you text me later or something? Just to let me know you’re okay?”

“So do I have to add you to my list of people I have to text once a day?”

I didn’t know how to answer that. His face was so serious. Didn’t know if he was being sarcastic or funny.

“Yes,” I blurted out. “Add me to your list.”

“Fine.” He kept his black gaze on me.

“What?” Sometimes when he stared at me this way, I could barely catch my breath. “What is it?”

“You know, when you said that I was beautiful, I should have said, ‘So are you.’”

Hot blood filled my face and I was glad for the cover of darkness. “Thank you.” God, he confused and thrilled me so. “Is that all?”
