Chapter 61

“Come on. I made a few calls and fixed an Excel sheet for you.”

Vincent’s fierce dark eyes narrowed, his stare boring into me.

“Fine.” I grabbed the money and stuffed it into my jeans. “Youshould have played a gangster in a noir movie.” I looked over to see Justin strolling back into the living room, carrying a huge bowl of fruit topped with whipped cream. He gently deposited the glass bowl on the table and got down on his knees, staring at the dessert with a ceremonious expression.

“Jesus, Justin, don’t pray to the thing,” Vincent said with a caustic smile.

Justin looked up at his father. Slowly, he put his hands together and closed his eyes. He too, had a little smirk on his face.

“Oh, careful,” I said, nudging my brother with an elbow. “The apprentice will soon outwit his master.”

Clad in black jeans and Wonder Woman T-shirt, Lou came walking in. “I’m making a kick-ass cream of leek soup that will blow your fucking heads off.”
