“She told me, you know, about you investing in her business.” I took a gulp of my rum and coke and stared at him with a smirk. “I think that’s the soundest investment you’ve ever made.”

“Yeah, well, she’s smart. Not to mention freakin’ creative. Plus, she works like a madwoman. And she should be doing more with her life than managing the Knight store social media pages.”

“And you believe in her.” I leaned in closer and nudged his shoulder with mine. “‘Cause you love her,” I teased him.

“Shut up.” He tried to drink but snorted a laugh instead.

We were quiet for a moment and I watched Lorraine rock Andrew to sleep by the couches. He had specially made earplugs in his tiny ears, but I knew he and I shared one thing: the joy of falling asleep surrounded by voices, music, and the soothing presence of people having a good time.
