I played with his fingers on my thigh. “I can’t really recall who I was before I met you all.”

He chuckled, his shoulder shaking under my cheek. “Yeah, I can see how that could happen.”

I sat up and looked at him. “You know you’re gonna get the part next week. You do know that, right?”

Lei nodded, a small smirk drawing up the corner of his lips.

“Will I get to sit in the front row, right behind the orchestra pit?”

“You get to sit wherever you like.”

“Will Carmelita be there?”

“Hell no.” He tilted his head, watching me. “Micah, I’m never going back to her, okay?” He squeezed my hand. “Okay?”

“Okay.” I stared at him. “You don’t miss…women?” Had to know.

“There’s only one person that I miss,” Lei said, holding my stare to his. “The rest—the rest is just noise.” He touched my face. “And you’re the silence. Please don’t ask me to explain it any more than that.”
