“Patrick got your uncle’s name before you said it,” Shelby blurted out. “He said ‘Garret.’ Ariana kept calling him Larry.”

“Yeah, I caught that. Patrick knew Uncle G’s name, though? Really?”

“He did.” Goose brushed my cheek. “I wish it worked like this, just…conversation,” he said. “Heaven doesn’t have Facebook. Maybe it does. It had iTunes and porn when I first got there.”

“Bro-ford…”

“Stream of consciousness,” Goose told Rip. “Sorry, Tate. Mostly, what I’ve been getting are random clues, an image, a shiver.”

“What about you, Patrick?” Tate asked.

“Goose is way better at it,” I said. “The name Garret did come to me right before you said it, though. You can believe us or not, but it did. I don’t even know if I’d believe it, if someone else hadn’t seen it happen. You mentioned Vietnam…”

“Uncle G fought over there.”

“Right. Another odd thing’s been going on. Another…visitor or something from that era has been coming to us, one who seems to enjoy playing checkers?”
