“No. Stay right where you are. I never want to take us being skin to skin for granted, never again.”
“Okay.”
“A little warm, is all, but don’t move yet.”
“How’s about just far enough to open the window. A little night air might be nice and cool.”
I allowed him only that one step, to reach the single pane screenless awning window crank, holding onto his hand as he did. Goose took a big gulp of air there, once the transom was opened as far as it could, and then, “Hey. Look.” Before I knew it, my naked lover had pulled free and was hanging out the tiny opening partway up the wall. He was a pretty small guy, granted, which made me wonder how he’d even gotten up there in the literal blink of an eye. Despite that compact size, all I could think of was Winnie the Pooh getting stuck in a hole in a tree in search of honey.
“What are you doing?” I asked.
“Hold my feet.”
“For?”
“I want to reach something out here.”
