“Here’s another,” I said upon my return. “Two.”
“Halloween!”
“Yes, an Atticus Maughan black cat sitting on a jack-o-lantern…” It was a large piece, the cat part bigger than our dog and our pig. “I likely spent more for it than I should have, but I knew you would love it.”
“I do. I love all of Maughan’s sculptures.”
“It was worth the cost…our very first Halloween decoration as a couple. But wait! There’s more. These just came in today.” I handed Goose a set of ceramic candle holders, white, with raised black lettering that read Boo!
“We should put them out right now,” he said, “on the dining room table, even though it’s not even Labor Day.”
“October is getting closer and closer.”
“It is.” Goose’s joyful expression turned to one of shock. “Eleven ninety-nine!”
“You’re not supposed to call out the price.”
“We have almost these same exact ones at Cost-Mart for two bucks.”
