Chapter 66

“I have the only person I need right here,” Alice said.

“Sunny!” I remembered Sunny. “Are you somehow related to her? There seems to be a tie…a person in common with at least one half of all of the other couples.” I ran down the list. “Daniel, too. Our Carrie is related to him. If you’d like to see Sunny, we can communicate with her for you, like we’ve been doing for the others.”

“Sunny?” Alice asked.

“She’s a nurse, too. She took care of Goose and me when we were both recently in the hospital.”

“I’m glad you’re well.”

“She was fabulous,” I told Alice.

“That’s nice to hear, too, but there is no connection,” Alice told me.

“Oh. What about you?” When I turned to the other woman, I’d caught her humming, the tune familiar, a part of our wedding, in fact.

“I can’t help myself,” she said. “And I feel just like Al does, Patrick. Reunions will come. Right now, in the midst of this miracle, I feel as if I’ve been given the greatest gift I could ever wish for.”
