Chapter 19

“Unfortunately,” Buck agreed. “We might learn more when we come back on Sunday. Until then, let’s do something so we’ll know if anyone pays a visit while we’re gone.”

“Like what? It’s not like there are security cameras.”

“No, but we can take photos of everything the way it is right now,” Buck replied, taking out his phone. “If something has changed, like the cabinet doors have been closed, or opened wider, or there’s more digging in the hole, we’ll know it. You work up here, I’ll do down the downstairs.”

Mika gave him a thumbs-up, heading to the kitchen. He’s clever when it comes to stuff like this. Maybe he was a cop in a past life. He smiled at the idea and set to work.

Half an hour later they were together in the main room.

“My photos won’t be the best,” Buck said. “The lighting leaves something to be desired down there, even with the flashlight. I got shots of all the walls and where the beds are sitting, in case someone moves them.”
