Two plates sat on the table. There was a cupcake with chocolate frosting upon each one, and two glasses above and to the right. Mrs. Burke took one of the glasses away, though, and replaced it with a paper cup from a dispenser beside the sink. “Please, sit.”
Chad sat at the head of the table and Tucker sat beside him. Mrs. Burke seemed to cringe again. She poured milk from a carton into the glass and the cup. No surprise, Chad got the glass and Tucker got the white paper cup with the purple and yellow flowers. This time, hewas treated like the small child—or an unwelcome guest.
Mrs. Burke stood behind Chad as he and Tucker ate their snack. “How was your day?” she asked.
“Good.”
