Chapter 87

“What, Tucker?” Chad said it like he knew Tucker was worried.

“It’s going to be alright. This place is like a fortress: every habitat is strong and secure. It may be a good thing Glory got out when she did. Now I know she’s in lockdown and double-checked everyone else.” Tucker tried to smile. It didn’t matter. Chad wasn’t even looking at him. “We make a good team. Help me slide the barricade.” Tucker reached for a handle and pulled a heavy steel door, virtually invisible when slid back into its pocket, across the front of the shelter.

“You didn’t need my help,” Chad commented.

“Moral support.” Tucker shrugged. “Come…sit on the blanket.”

The protection of the door, though necessary, made things sound considerably worse. The rain pounding against it, other objects flying into it: there was an awful lot of noise, which put Chad more ill at ease. Tucker took a seat and patted the spot beside him. “Come on. Just like high school.”
