Chapter 49

“The green spots.” Reid sighed. “I think we’ll all be pretty busy today, but I’ve got a good feeling about this. I think we’ll get some important data.” He stood up and looked around the kitchen. “I’ll text you if I get anything.” He fled the room.

Cameron turned to look at Jason. “Does he realize that he doesn’t have my phone number yet?”

“Sure he does. We called you somehow.” Jason grinned. “At least you got the easy job.”

Cameron rolled his eyes. “Do you have any idea how unpleasant some of those Mayflower genealogists can be when a brown-skinned dude comes in with questions?”

“Do you have any idea how unpleasant it can be to go digging random pits in an old backyard?” Jason grinned. “That green spot could be a mass grave. Could be an old privy. Could be a less-old septic tank ready to rupture and there’s only one way to find out!” He struck an overly enthusiastic pose and winked.

Cameron laughed in spite of himself. “Um, text me if you need anything, I guess.”
