Chapter 12

“Do you need to rest? Should I leave for a while?” Cam offered.

“No, no,” Chris objected, squeezing Cam’s hand. “I want to have you here for as long as I can. I’ve been waiting to have this time with you. We haven’t had time together in such a long while.”

“I’m sorry…” Cam started but Chris raised her hand to stop her.

“You’ve been doing what needed to be done. That’s the important thing. The Lord willing, someday we’ll have eternity to spend together.”

Silence settled over them for a few minutes and Cam thought that Grandma Chris had fallen back asleep. She was amazed when she heard “Do you think you’ll ever move back here?”

“Back here? To Massachusetts? I don’t know. I really don’t know. Why?”

“When, or if you do, there’s a house in your name. Carrie has the right to live there until she dies, but then it’ll be yours.”

“But Grandma Chris! Shouldn’t it go…?”
