“I remember reading about that,” Cam added, encouraging him to continue.
“He was in Baltimore to talk to the mayor,” Nick continued. “He made a lot of people angry being at the banquet.”
“Do you know who killed him?” Cam asked.
“I have an idea.” He looked around, almost paranoid, “Cam, the guy was a heroin dealer.”
Cam sat back, shocked. He hadn’t shown up on any of Dickie’s lists. How had this guy sneaked through?
“What was he doing at the banquet?” Cam asked, hoping she sounded naive.
“He’d been blackmailing the mayor,” Nick admitted, “I’ve kept it out of the media, but he almost blew everything that night.”
“I don’t understand,” Cam said, hoping to keep Nick talking.
Nick was silent for a moment, trying to decide how much he could tell her.
