“He’s still critical, but right now it’s you I’m worried about. Get going so I’ll know that you’re safe with Maurice. Ralphie, get her out of here.”

Her teeth clenched in anger, Sonya pushed Cam toward the car, then turned and strode back into the hospital.

They all sat there, no one saying anything. Cam’s and Ralphie’s reports had stunned them all.

“Has anything gone over the police radio?” Sonya asked, breaking the silence.

Max turned to her and nodded. “There was a call for ambulances and some backup assistance at 9:58. It was a no rush call. That seems to agree with everything you’ve told us, give or take a few minutes,” he answered.

“Did you notice what time it was when we left?” Cam asked Ralphie.

“No,” he replied, “but it wasn’t much later than 9:30. I remember looking at the clock when I poured the drinks. It was nine then. It wasn’t that much later when…” He stopped. He was having a hard time saying that the two men were killed.
