“What did Grandfather say about the Romani leaving?”
“He’s sent for Milosh. I have the feeling he’ll banish your cousin before he’ll let the Romani leave.”
“Well, that’ll burn Val’s arse.”
“It will.” Shandor seemed pleased about that. If it came to that, Ioan was, too. “The Regehas a plan, so I’m hopeful my people will stay.”
“Was that what you had to tell me?”
“No.”
“Are you going to make me drag it out of you?”
“No.”
“Shandor, tell me what you found!”
“This is from Tyrell. Adam brought it. He said to tell you Ty will give you your real gift when he sees you.”
“Ty’s coming to the castle?”
“Not until his courses are done for the term.”
“Yes, of course. I should have realized.” Ioan smiled wistfully into Shandor’s eyes. “So what’s his gift?”
Shandor held out a newspaper. For a moment, Ioan thought it was one of those fake newspapers that Ty had made up for him, possibly announcing that all Romania had gone wild, celebrating his birthday.
