Chapter 7

Her dad had found someone. Finally.

“You’re quiet tonight,” Luke said during dinner. Sofia had her thinking face on, but she’d finished all her homework already.

“Everything alright?” he asked.

Sofia smiled, and nodded. She took another bite out of her ravioli. “This is a good dinner, Dad.”

“Great.” Luke smiled. “But don’t talk while you’re chewing, you could choke.”

Sofia nodded, and swallowed her mouthful before she said, “Okay. Dad? Can we have a picnic in the park?”

“Yeah, I guess so. When?”

“Soon?”

“Sunday?” Luke suggested. “Weather’s going to be good.”

“Yeah!” Sofia smiled happily.

“Okay, then. We’ll have a picnic on Sunday.”

Jamie had only spoken to Luke three hours ago, so when his phone flashed with an incoming call from him, Jamie was surprised.

Pleasantly surprised.

He accepted the call and put the phone to his ear with one hand, and continued to spoon his yogurt into a bowl with his other. “Hey, handsome. How was dinner?”
