Chapter 106

Dakota walked Kenna into the house. Her gaze bounced wildly as she took in every part of the place. The photos hanging in the main hallway, the aging but classy wallpaper, the rugs, the wood, the furniture. Every new thing caught her attention until something else pulled it away. She paused at an open doorway to look inside. Dakota stopped, too, once he realized what Kenna was gawking at.

A baby, asleep but moving slightly and half-sucking on its thumb. The soft pink onesie and matching cap left no question as to the gender. She’d told him the infant was a girl, but Dakota had honestly forgotten it, and he didn’t remember the name, either. So much had happened in the past year. There simply wasn’t any room in his head for that information. At least not until now.
